November 14th is Movie Day in South Korea
By now you know that every 14th of the month is some sort-of unofficial “holiday” in South Korea. It’s usually a couples thing but some times it’s not (e.g., April 14th Black Day).
Well today is Movie Day which means couples in South Korea go out in droves to catch a flick.
Their movie watching experience is far superior to ours
Besides giving exchanging gifts of DVDs or movie themed gifts, there are a ton of movie watching options for South Koreans.
Couples, and singles I suppose, can rent a DVD room (bang – 방) for privacy for little more than the price of a movie ticket. The rooms are quite sizeable, fitting a group of people if need be. Plus this way they don’t have to contend with long movie lines and over priced food.
Or they can go to any number of movie theaters that offer everything from loveseats to restaurant quality fine dining. And here I am, just happy to have an IMAX near by…or not get gum on the seat of my pants. Clearly, the bar is set pretty low!
But you don’t have to go out
Or they can choose to stay in and watch movies as well, which is another way to beat the crowd. The point being to spend time together as a couple.
But if you’re single, it’s also a good time to get together with other single friends and watch a movie. The point being here is to spend time with other singles and commiserate while watching a movie like “Bridget Jones’s Diary” – the quintessential single girl’s movie.
Pass the popcorn please
Although you may not be in South Korea, there’s no reason we can’t have a Movie Day too. Whether you choose to go out or stay in, remember, it’s really just an excuse to strengthen relationships with your boo or besties. So don’t get stingy with the popcorn! 😉
