How to Make a Meal of Ramen
You’d be hard pressed to find someone who has never had ramen noodles. They’re cheap and easy and did I mention that they’re CHEAP! I can’t say that they’re all that delicious…I’d say it depends on how hungry you are!
However, did you know you don’t have to settle for just what came in the package? Yes, you can have more than the freeze dried veggies and flavor dust!
This doesn’t even require a recipe!
You just boil up a pot of ramen noodles as instructed on the package. Then add whatever you feel like!
The most common add-in I see is an egg or two. Soft boiled or plopped right in, there’s really no wrong way.
I happened to have green onions, mushrooms, and leftover rotisserie chicken in the fridge so that’s what I added to my ramen.
The ramen restaurants I’ve been to also added green onions and mushrooms (shiitake – the fancy mushroom!) to their bowls.
It’s a fantastic way of getting rid of leftovers!
I love bibimbap for this reason as well, but ramen is even faster to make!
Plus, if you are making spicy ramen, the spice will likely overpower any seasoning that may have been in the leftovers.
Speaking of spice, I like to use a mild ramen, add things to it, and then let each individual add spiciness (sriracha, hot sauce, or gochujang) to their liking.
The other great thing about making a meal of ramen is that by adding things to it, there’s more to share! Ramen noodles alone can easily be eaten by one person. But after adding mushrooms, meat, etc. that’s quite a lot to eat by yourself! (It’s doable though. 😉)
I’m ashamed to admit that this didn’t occur to me sooner. I blame it on being too engrossed in my academic studies (but more likely, sleeping) to bother with doing anything more than microwaving hot water.
Nowadays, I hardly ever eat ramen noodles because it just isn’t very nutritious and I still feel hungry afterwards! But if you get a little creative, it can be a filling meal!
It still goes fast though! 😉
