Gift Guide for Kids (with a Korean spin)
I know it’s probably hard to believe but I’m actually not all that Korea centric. Believe me, my kid has his fair share of Legos and Fisher-Price toys. But I like to sprinkle in things that kids in Korea might have so that there’s a sense of shared experience. It’s just another way for me to help my kid, and myself for that matter, connect with people who have the same heritage. Does that make sense?
However, I don’t mean for these gifts to only be for Korean kids. They’re just cool toys that are great for any kid, no matter what their heritage. Goodness knows, my kid is not going to realize the significance of these things being Korean! He’s going to be more like, “Ooh shiny!”
So without further ado….
My Top 10 Gifts for Kids that have Korean flair
Pororo Refrigerator Baby Toy with Ice Slot – I have no idea why they call it a “baby toy” when the manufacturer suggested age is 3 years and up. PLEASE do not give this to your babies. It has a ton of teeny choking hazard parts. It is really stinking cute because of all those parts though.
MIMI WORLD ddol ddoly laundry machine – This pretend set includes a laundry machine, a basket, spray bottle, and an iron. And they’re all pint-sized! It’s perfect for kids who like to pretend they’re washing their doll’s clothes or who like to mimic adults doing laundry.
Little Mimi Korean Barbie Doll’s Transforming Purse House – I definitely would’ve begged for this when I was little if it had existed. It’s a rather fashionable purse that opens up into a house for a Korean doll. The house even has a bath tub! At least check out the hilarious doll activities on the packaging. 😂
Pororo & Friends in Train, Car, and Plane – These are small vehicles that you pull back to wind and then release so they’ll go on their own. They’re smaller than Matchbox cars so this is another one for slightly older kids.
Korean Carrying & Counting Wooden Beads Toy – This is definitely one of the more simplistic toys on the list. But it’s fantastic for developing motor skills and even fostering emotional maturity when they inevitably get frustrated.
Miniature Korean Food – This is definitely for older kids because it is all tiny parts, shaped like food no less! You have got to check it out though. It’s tiny Korean food. There’s dolsot bibimbap and banchan, along with other Korean cuisine. And there’s even soju!….So yeah, definitely for older kids…perhaps adults. 😊
Larva Pik Pik Water Gun – This is a four piece set. And they aren’t guns at all. They’re kind of water squish toys. Whatever they are, kids love the goofy cartoon faces on them.
My First Book of Korean Words: An ABC Rhyming Book of Korean Language and Culture – Of course at least one book had to make it to the list! And this is a great one. It’s a fantastic introduction to the Korean language for kids.
Pororo Korean and English Learning Laptop for Kids – What isn’t there a “Pororo” brand of?? This is a cool device that is perfect for tech savvy little kids. It’s the equivalent of the LeapFrog laptop. It’s another great way to get kids, or adults, learning Korean. I have to warn you though. It’s incredibly expensive. I’ll have to check the price of it next time I’m in Korea. In the meantime, if you see it cheaper anywhere, please share in the comments!
Tayo the Little Bus Parking Garage Play Set plus Mini Buses – This is probably the best all around toy on the list at least as far as my son goes. If your kid likes the cartoon “Tayo the Little Bus,” then they will LOVE this play set. But even if your kid doesn’t even know about Tayo, they’re still going to love this play set…as long as they like things with wheels (like my kid).
My favorites are the Pororo & Friends in Train, Car, and Plane set for my toddler, and the miniature Korean food for myself! How about you?
One of these will be just perfect for your kid or kids! Let me know how it goes in the comments!
