Learning Korean Vowels
Last week I posted a free printable chart of numbers 1-10 in Korean. It’s a great teaching tool for kids and adults!
This week I’ll post free printable charts for Hangeul (Korean) vowels and consonants. They’re useful for the beginning learner.
I’m using them to slowly phase in Hangeul, along with English, to my toddler. Even though I don’t really expect him to pick it up (he can barely draw a circle, nevermind a letter in any language!) I want his eyes to recognize the shapes of letters and his ears to become attuned to the different sounds of the two languages.
Since I made these for my own use, I figured I would share!
Just as with the numbers in Korean, I created this printable chart to hang in his room. (Click on the image for a downloadable pdf!)
And I created a blank one so that he can color it himself. (This is also a downloadable pdf!)
In case you didn’t know, these are the basic vowels. There are, in fact, other ones but they’re really a combination of these. And for a beginner, especially a child, these are probably enough!
The upper left corner has the phonetic spelling and the lower right corner is an example of how it would sound in a word (if there is a word).
Stay tuned for other ways I’m building a foundation for learning Korean (and English!) that are even more fun! I’m basically tricking my toddler into learning! 😆
…”Tricking” sounds so devious, doesn’t it? But what I really mean is to making learning so much fun that he doesn’t even realize that he is learning! What we’re trying to avoid is a situation of coming home from school and then bemoaning, if not dreading, an hour of Korean study.
Plus, this way, parents have more fun too! 😉
